Classification of European Biomass Potential for Bioenergy Using Terrestrial and Earth Observations
Structure
Work Package 1
Activities carried out in Work Package 1 are related to the general process of project management and coordination and accompanying measures such as communicating with the European Commission on the consortium’s behalf. Coordinating the work of project Partners will require clear objectives and an efficient management structure.
Work Package 2
Thematic activities will start in Work Package 2 where currently available methodologies for land cover assessment using different satellite data types will be thoroughly investigated.
Work Package 3
Work Package 3 is launched parallel with WP2 with the objective to review current terrestrial methods and activities for biomass potential assessment. The goal of this WP is to survey the current terrestrial methods and activities for biomass potential assessment, to evaluate them in the viewpoint of the main objectives of the project.
Work Package 4
Work Package 4 will be the integrating focal point of the project with the objectives to set up a harmonized biomass assessment approach and to work out guidelines for best practise. Work will be based on the results of WP 2 and WP 3.
Work Package 5
Work Package 5 will set the first steps for future biomass/EO research, application and European cooperation. Based on input from WP 2 and WP 3 as well as on the results of WP 4 the aim of the Platform is to identify still existing gaps between the currently used and the proposed applications as well as to define a research road map for the future.
Work Package 6
There is also a very strong awareness especially among the EO Community for the need of continuing education – „lifelong learning” -, taking up new developments and a general positive attitude towards science and technology. This need will be tackled in Work Package 6 where a simple but robust and highly cost efficient e-training programme will be provide additional coordination and support the fast take-up of WP4 results and harmonized approaches.
Work Package 7
Work Package 7 will develop and deploy a powerful dissemination strategy to be implemented horizontally with project activities. All partners will contribute throughout Europe to the dissemination information about the project and its results at conferences, seminars, workshops and meetings relevant to the objectives of CEUBIOM.
